About Me

A citizen of the US who would desperately like to become British (English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish-- it matters not), I am a woman and a gamer. I graduated three years ago from Ithaca College in upstate NY, where I studied English and minored in history. I am currently employed as a shop girl, formerly a barista and book store clerk. I define as a writer as much as I define as a gamer, and might sometimes blather on about things like deadlines and the novel I'm currently writing.

I largely play RPGs and for a very long time gamed exclusively on Nintendo handhelds and the PS2. From age 9 to about age 19, I played only JRPGs. In 2010, I expanded into PC games, where I have been enjoying Skyrim, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, and a few FPS. I currently use mostly a 3DS and a PC.

My background, obviously, is in writing, and also in academia, so I tend to be a little esoteric sometimes. I also talk about narrative and scripting in games more than most might. I have a tendency to name my electronics, largely by strange, obscure mythological references or by weird literary references. Because I am a dork like that.

Q: You've played a lot of games. What are your favorites, and why?

A: There are some series that I've played almost all the games of, but still wouldn't call my favorites (Final Fantasy and Dragon Warriors/Quest, for example). And there are some series that I have played barely any of the games, but would still call my favorite (Etrian Odyssey IV). Regardless, these are my favorite games and series.

Shin Megami Tensei/Persona. I LOVE these games. I can't reiterate it enough. These games were what launched me into hardcore gaming, and just hearing the opening music of Persona 3 makes me smile. As part of the gaming tattoos I have started getting on my left arm, I want Pyro Jack from the series. <3

Harvest Moon. These games are addictive. The micromanaging aspects are incredible, even though you wouldn't think that farming would be so fun. It does occasionally put out duds (I did not like Tale of Two Towns at all), but the series is overall very good.

Disgaea. Disgaea was one of the first RPGs I bought for myself. I'll never regret it. I was looking for Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for my birthday, but GameStop didn't have it, so I had to get Disgaea. I now own both, annd both are wonderful, but I do adore Disgaea.

SKYRIM. I've posted enough on the topic for the why to be covered, but it was really the game that got me into PC gaming. I still play it regularly, and its three year anniversary is coming up soon.

Etrian Odyssey IV has some of the best game mechanics I've ever seen.

Honorary mention to Fire Emblem, which is such a good series that it shocks me sometimes.
