Virtual Obsessions, launched October 24th of 2010, is designed to be a little different than a normal gaming blog. I don't always have a "message" and not every post is a review. Rather, Virtual Obsessions is supposed to be about the games themselves rather than always looking at the games through a certain lens, whether that lens belongs to a critic or a feminist.
This isn't to say that I don't write posts that have a tinge of either/both of those things. But the majority of Virtual Obsessions aims to discuss the gaming experience, by the gamer, about the games. Many posts are about what it's like to play a certain game. Things that are trying to do something otherwise are labeled as such. If I'm feelingly particularly feminist, I use the "grrl gamer alert" tag-- a lot of posts, and most reviews, will be tagged with this; if it's about the gaming experience in general, I use "games qua games"; if it's a review, I tag it, as I do first impressions of games, which is like a review, but without all of the hours logged in or all of the areas covered in a normal review. I also include news posts about happenings in the gaming world. In 2011, I covered what I thought to be high points of E3, and I generally post about price changes, new consoles, etc. Upcoming is "A Day in the Life," where I will chronicle playing as a character over the course of a day. I also have going a retro gaming project, where I play and review older games.
I feature on the left the systems that I have to game with, including computer specs. On the right, I feature upcoming games that I'm particularly looking forward to, as well as what I'm currently playing.
All of this being said, I hope you like Virtual Obsessions, and I would love to hear your comments!
